THE TEAL PUMPKIN PROJECT

October 12, 2016

Halloween is just a few weeks away and thanks to the Teal Pumpkin Project kids with food allergies can enjoy the holiday as much as all the other kids. If you have a child with a food allergy, you know how difficult birthday parties, Halloween parties and really any other gathering that serves food is. Taking a child out for trick or treats meant throwing a lot of candy away because it either had allergens in the ingredients, had been processed on equipment that processes the allergens or the ingredients aren’t listed or the list is questionable. As a parent of someone with severe food allergies you always err on the side of caution.

That’s why the Teal Pumpkin Project is so wonderful. Homeowners can put out a teal pumpkin to let parents and kids know they’re giving away non-food items.

TEAL PUMPKIN PROJECT

FARE’s Teal Pumpkin Project® is a worldwide movement to create a safer, happier Halloween for all kids. Putting a teal pumpkin on your doorstep means you have non-food treats available, such as glow sticks or small toys. This simple act promotes inclusion for trick-or-treaters with food allergies or other conditions.

How to Take Part

  • Provide non-food treats for trick-or-treaters
  • Place a teal pumpkin in front of your home to indicate to passersby that you have non-food treats available
  • Display a free printable sign or premium poster from FARE to explain the meaning of your teal pumpkin
