Poulter Pond Grand Opening in West Haven
May 13, 2025
Utah locals, mark your calendars! On Thursday, May 15th at 6:00 PM, the City of West Haven will officially open Poulter Pond—a beautiful, family-friendly community fishing pond created through a meaningful partnership between West Haven City, Nilson Homes, and the Utah Division of Natural Resources (DNR).
This exciting project is more than just a new pond. It represents a shared commitment to preserving open space, connecting the community to nature, and providing outdoor recreation for generations to come.
Built with Purpose – A True Community Effort
Poulter Pond is located within a Nilson Homes community and was developed with the support of Nilson Homes, whose mission is to build thoughtfully planned neighborhoods that enhance lives. As part of this development, Nilson Homes contributed time, resources, and design support to help make this pond a reality for West Haven residents.
The pond will be stocked and ready for fishing at the time of the ribbon cutting and will follow special DNR regulations to ensure a healthy and sustainable fishing experience. Anglers can expect to find rainbow trout, bluegill, channel catfish, and largemouth bass in the coming months.
For questions about regulations, contact the West Haven City Parks Department.
Honoring History – The Poulter Family Legacy
Poulter Pond is part of the newly named Poulter Family Open Space Preserve, a space with deep historical roots. The land was generously donated by the Poulter family, descendants of Utah pioneers Wilson and Esther Poulter, who settled the area—then known as Kanesville—in the late 1800s. The family homesteaded the land until its dedication in 2025.
A monument honoring their legacy will be installed on-site and will read:
THE POULTER FAMILY OPEN SPACE PRESERVE
Dedicated on May 15, 2025Dedicated to the memory of the courageous pioneer settlers Wilson and Esther Goodyear Poulter, who walked across the plains in 1866 and became the first settlers in this area in 1884.
