TURN YOUR BEDROOM INTO A SLEEP OASIS

February 10, 2016

Turn your bedroom into a sleep oasis and get the shut eye you need. Most of understand that getting enough sleep each night is key to a good mood the next day. The difference between dragging yourself around and having abundant energy is in the amount of undisturbed sleep you get. Of course, it isn’t always easy to get enough sleep especially if you are a parent – whether you’re up all night because of a new feeding schedule or up all night worrying for the teenager to make it home safely, parenting can rob you of sleep.

You may not be able to change your life circumstances right now, but you can make your bedroom conducive to the best night’s sleep possible by following these simple steps.

HOW TO TURN YOUR BEDROOM INTO A SLEEP OASIS:

Block the light – Unless you live out in the country where there are few street lights you’ll want to block out as much of the nighttime light as possible. Light blocking shades, blinds and curtains are a great way to make your room feel dark even if the sun has come up. If you have a smart home you can program your blinds to open at a specific time so you wake up by the light entering your room.

Block the noise – Studies have shown the the closer you live to an airport the more likely your sleep is poor due to airport noise. Light blocking curtains help to block the noise as well as the light, but if you live in a noisy area (or have a noise partner or pet) consider using ear plugs when you sleep. You’ll wake refreshed because you weren’t tossing and turning all night.

No TV or other electronics – Get the TV and other electronics out of the bedroom. The light emitted from these devices has been shown to disrupt the ability to wind down at night so you can fall asleep. If you need help winding down read a good book, you’ll be asleep in no time.

Get rid of the clutter – A messy room is a stress inducing room. Get rid of the clutter and make your bed each morning. You room will feel comfortably appealing because you aren’t worried about having to clean it when you retire at night.

Blue hues – Soft blues are considered the best choice for bedroom walls. This doesn’t mean you have to paint your room to get a good night’s sleep, but if you’re looking to freshen up the room with paint you might want to consider choosing a soft, light blue palette.
